Checklist for Standards Glass Pool Fencing Should Comply With

A guaranteed quality of workmanship is one of the major reasons why you should leave all pool fencing work to qualified and experienced experts. Just as important is that these contractors have a working knowledge and understanding of the standard requirements that each pool type should meet.

With glass pool fencing, here are some of these standard requirements that a professional pool fencing contractor will ensure your installation is compliant with, before use.

Fencing Height and Gaps

All installed glass pooling must extend to at least 1200 mm high from above the ground. There should be a gap of no more than 100 mm at the bottom of your glass fence structure or between panels. This minimum makes it difficult, and especially for young kids to go over the fence, and all for their safety and wellbeing. The gap at the bottom is also too small for anyone to try and sneak into your pool area through that point.

Clearance from Climbable Objects

Glass pool fencing does not have any footholds, which is a plus, as far as preventing anyone from climbing over the fence. Unfortunately, a determined person may use climbable objects nearby as footholds. As a standard, there should be a minimum clearance of 900 mm between your pool fencing and any such objects or structures which may include taps, rocks and all types of surface elevations.

Gates and Latches

The pool fencing gate is the only safe way to access your pool area. The gate should be oriented in such a way that it opens outwards, that is, swinging away from the pool. This gate should be fitted with self-closing hinges that will ensure the gate can close from any position even without applying any force.

Additionally, the gate should be self-latching. These latches can only be released through manual operation, meaning the gate will stay closed until you open it yourself.

The Right Material

Installation aside, your pool fencing is only as strong as the material that you use. For glass pool fencing, using the glass of the required thickness that has been tested and proven to meet the set requirements is not an option. You can rest easy if the tempered glass doesn't deform, shatter or break under force during testing. Other components holding up the panels such as spigots and stainless steel posts must also be of top quality.

You can rest assured that a licensed pooling fence contractor is well-versed in these standards. Full compliance is crucial to ensuring the safety of all pool users.
